MIHARU TAKIZAKURA
One of the three great cherry trees of Japan is located in Miharu,Fukushima Prefecture. The Takizakura(waterfall cherry tree) is more than 1,000 years old and was declared
as a national treasure of nature in 1922.
The tree stands 19 meters tall, and the breadth of the branches reaches nearly 22 meters. The circumstance of the trunk alone is 9.5 meters. Takizakura blossoms in late April or early May. Many of the cherry trees around Miharu are relatives of the original Takizakura. You can see them on the hillsides and in the valleys.
